YCH Saturday Social 04/12/21
Kudos to those who came along for our most recent YCH Saturday Social...
We had a proper good blast on the bikes, blowing off the cobwebs in true Yorkshire weather on a fun-filled route with epic climbs, stunning views and thrilling descents.
We began at 9.30am from the Hub, where we got straight into things with a hike-a-bike ascent onto the New Way via the Round Hill bridleway. This really got the lungs going and our bodies warmed up for the ride ahead. Here we caught the early morning sunlight beaming upon Fryup and Botton, a sight to behold before heading deep into the mighty mist of Rosedale.
We then we hit the southern edge of the George Gap Causeway, negotiating our way through puddles and cobbles across Glaisdale Moor, back into the golden light above the famous Fryup waterfalls.
Heading north east, we put pedal to the metal along fast flowing trails, descending towards Street and onto Glaisdale Rigg. 360 views rewarded our efforts, keeping spirits high in otherwise wet, wintery conditions.
Cutting across the moor on a speedy section of singletrack, we descended to Head House and the shelter of Crag Wood where we pondered the inevitable downpour, with some taking the fast track route through Little Fryup Dale. The rest buckled up for the final climbs through fierce headwinds and icy rainfall to Danby Castle and Ainthorpe Rigg.
Along the Rigg we were challenged yet unfazed by the crosswinds encountered and continued towards our thrilling finale at Crossley Side. Shredding through thick mud and over wet rocks, we rapidly descended the moor with the imminent prospect of festive burgers and pigs in blankets firmly in our thoughts!
Alas we regrouped at the Hub following a hot shower and change of clothes, refuelling with comfort food and coffee in the Great Fryup Dale Cafe where we reflected on a great day of riding, laughing about Phil's random mid-ride stories and myself taking one for the team up front, flying over the bars into a knee-deep bog so nobody else had to!
